As an experienced woodburner I purchased the book with specific items in mind and Ms Irish (as typical of her excellent services) included very much more.While the book afforded detailed tutorials, hints and a number of fascinating projects that were both educational and interesting, the characteristics and the use of various woodburners is demonstrated in great detail. This aspect and the tutorials are superbly done and each alone worth the purchase. The projects begin at the novice level and build upon each preceding effort. Tools, materials, and preperation are clearly explained and step-by-step project instructions are clearly illustrated.

I am a beginner and this is the book sitting by my side as I learn. Every step is broken down in detail. Not like some books which give you a sample of the authors work and then basically tell you to go do it, Irish's book gives you detailed instruction on HOW to do it. Projects grouped as beginner intermediate and advanced. I have gotten a number of books to help learn pyrography and this the best on on the shelf.

This is a very well written and illistrated book by one of my most admired artists. What makes the book so good is the author's ability to TEACH. Many artists can show you their work, but being able to teach you how to do what they do is what makes a great artist a great teacher. This book will provide you with valuable insight into the techniques that Lora Irish uses and I believe you will finish this book a better Pyrography wood-burner than you were before reading it, especially if you are new to this hobby.

This book is beyond great, I love the exercises and stencils. This book is educational with many valuable tips. I would recommend this book to beginners.

"The Great Book of Pyrography" is a wonderful resource for someone starting out in pyrography and hoping to advance. The book covers techniques from most basic to advanced in a clear manner with tons of illustrations and photos.I especially appreciated the explanation of both using a more basic single temperature tool (inexpensive and the one most beginners would be using) and the more advanced multi-temp tool.By following the chapters in the book from beginning to end, especially utilizing the practice board (using 1x1 squares on a larger board to test various techniques) the reader can quickly learn and improve their skill level.

I wish it had designs with Christmas and other holiday ideas/patterns.

And then the next poem is a soft wash of ocean water reminding me that healing in a violent world is a radical act and the lancing of the wound is the beginning of healing from the pain and transforming it before it goes septic in the heart.What has been done with such tiny poems is breathtaking. They are whole cosmos exploding with meaning. Every poet interested in the micropoem form should read this refined, intense collection, which reflects topics as diverse as racism, childhood abandonment, bisexuality, gender, African-American identity, trauma and healing, writing, and love poems, all kinds of love, both bitter salt and honey sweet. It is one of the most accomplished collections I've ever read, far more than much of the collections by authors far more famous. I purchased this collection, Salt, and her follow-up collection Nejma along with another collection that she recommended personally, Bone by Yrsa Daley-Ward, all at once and devoured each of them word by word.Salt is a wonder, unfolding layer upon layer of gentle but critical commentary about race, diaspora, masculinity, and womanhood, and finally, freedom, all in deliberate form. The poetry in Salt comes together as a courageous body of work that dares readers to be eternally soft. These words have the ability to heal and affirm. This collection has been a regular part of my self-care since I picked it up last year. I am grateful for Salt and its familiarity and resonance.  Anyone who reads her work will find a piece of themselves right in front of them. If it is possible to find a home in a poem, surely it is here. As she so eloquently puts into a poem titled “you”, “listen to my poems. but do not look for me. look for you”Thank you Nayyirah.

I used to say I was glad to live after Pablo Neruda lived so I can enjoy his work. With one poem, "i have seven different words for love. you have only one. that makes a lot of sense," I now say that I'm glad to live at the same time as Nayyirah Waheed. Her work says what we've been thinking in the best, most beautiful way possible. My heart gushes over each page. She's beautiful, clever, and encouraging. She's just what the world needed right now.

I'm sort of pre-emptively rating this a 5, because this is a book I have yet to finish. The poetry is alive, the words with a depth that I have not often found in the works of other authors. Because of this, I find that I usually cannot read through more than a handful of these works at a time, being forced to stop and reflect and put the book down because the images are not easily dismissed.Hopefully I remember to update this review when I finish it - which I will, I'm certain - but for now, I LOVE IT.
